Inter-university Twenty20

Srivilliputtur: The Anandam Ammal memorial Trophy all-India inter-university Twenty20 cricket tournament, organised by the Kalasalingam University, gets underway at the University ground, Krishnan Koil, near here, on Thursday. The 12 teams participating in the tournament have been divided into four pools for the league phase and two from each pool will qualify for the knock-out quarterfinals.

Aarthyganesh sizzles

Aarthyganesh (five for 49) helped Spark Colts CC chalk out a 21-run victory over Freak CC in the Canara Bank-MDCA first division ‘B’ zone league at Madurai recently.

The scores:

Spark Colts CC 203 in 41 overs (D. Karthick 40) bt Freak CC 182 in 44.2 overs (Karthikeyan 46, Aarthyganesh five for 49).

KKR CC 88 in 23.2 overs (Dosswinsley four for 39) lost to Eleven Star CC 90 for two in 16.2 overs (Suresh 42).

Nandakumar shines

An unbeaten century by T. Nandakumar enabled Wonder XI post a five-wicket win over Sterling Biotech in the semifinals of the Canara Bank-NDCA ‘B’ division league for the A.R. Rajoo Gowder Memorial Rolling Trophy in Udhagamandalam on Tuesday.

The scores:

‘B’ division: Semifinals: Sterling Biotech CC 195 (Rajini Kumar 61, R. Suresh five for 43) lost to Wonder XI CC 196 for five in 39.3 overs (T. Nandakumar 100 not out, G.J. Dass 57 not out); Mechanics CC 190 bt Don Bradman’s CC 170 (I. Abbas 82).

‘A’ division: Youngstars CC 193 (James 53, Sathyamurthy 67 not out, Saravanan four for 30) bt Yankees CC 165 (James four for 23); Colts CC 295 (S. Sandeep 78, D. Arun Prakash 67, Arvin 40, A. Jose four for 75) bt New Star CC 162 (A. Jose 50, J. Nagaraj four for 9).

Kancheepuram is champion

Kancheepuram, by virtue of its first innings lead against Coimbatore, emerged champion of the TNCA under-15 inter-district cricket tournament in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

It was Vijay Anand’s all-round performance that enabled the visitor gain an early edge over the host. Vijay scored a patient 80 in the team’s first innings and finished the tournament on a merry note with match figures of eight for 64.

The scores (final): Coimbatore 133 (G. Sri Vardhan 76, Vijay Anand four for 26) & 190 for eight (Dheer Bhimani 50, Bharath Chezhian 51, Vijay Anand four for 38) vs Kancheepuram 227 (Vijay Anand 80, S. Chandrasekhar 44) & 56 for no loss in 24 overs.
