Funds sought for MPM modernisation

Special Correspondent

BHADRAVATI: Former Bhadravati MLA B.K. Sangamesh has urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to immediately sanction Rs. 400 crore for modernisation of the State Government-owned Mysore Paper Mills (MPM) here.

In a release, Mr. Sangamesh said that he had discussed the matter initially with senior government officers and authorities of the MPM, and later with former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and the Ministers concerned.

He urged the Governor to extend help to take up modernisation of the paper mill.

He said that the mill, set up by the erstwhile rulers of Mysore, was one of the leading newsprint manufacturing factories in Asia. Nearly 3,000 regular employees and about 2,000 contract workers were contributing to the growth of the paper mill which was equipped with captive power generating unit, Mr. Sangamesh said.
