Over 1,000 centres to administer polio drops

Chennai: The Chennai Corporation will set up 1,187 centres to administer polio drops as part of the pulse polio immunisation campaign on January 6.

The campaign expects to reach out to five lakh children aged upto five in the city. Of the 1,187 centres, 300 are mobile units that will function at railway stations and bus termini.

The polio drops will also be administered free of cost at government health centres, private hospitals and schools.

Polio drops should be given to children who have already been immunised to eradicate wild polio virus.

Newborns and even children who are ill can be given the drops.

Volunteers from schools and non-governmental organisations will also be involved in the campaign.
