Girl fatally knocked down by lorry at Adambakkam

TAMBARAM: A 12-year-old girl was killed on the spot when she was hit by a lorry at Adambakkam on Wednesday morning.

S.Pavithra, the victim, was returning home on a bicycle after dropping her younger sister. Daughter of Settu, a construction worker, Pavithra was a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Adambakkam and a student of the Corporation Higher Secondary School in Guindy.

Her younger sister Shobhana was a Class IV student at a private matriculation school. Pavithra’s school had not yet re-opened after vacation. On Brindavan Nagar Main Road, the lorry carrying a consignment of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders hit the cycle, killing her instantly. The accident angered passers-by and residents of the locality thrashed the driver for rash driving.

Another accident

On Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road, a 17-year-old girl was killed by a speeding van on Tuesday evening.

The police said Radha and Saraswathy, residents of Kovilambakkam, were walking along the road, when the speeding van hit the women. While Radha was killed on the spot, Saraswathy is receiving treatment in a hospital.

Tambaram traffic police are investigating the accidents.
