TDB meeting suspended

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A meeting of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) held here on Wednesday was suspended following reported differences of opinion between president C.K. Guptan and the members.

The meeting had a 20-point agenda including the arrangements for the Makaravilakku festival at Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Temple. Board sources said the rules framed for the new Devaswom Act scrapping official residence and vehicle for the members were also included on the agenda of the meeting. Members P.K. Sumathykutty Amma and P. Narayanan are reported to have expressed their dissent. Mr. Guptan called the meeting to a halt and left the office. Meanwhile, Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran told reporters here that the government had recommended a Vigilance inquiry into alleged dereliction of duty by Devaswom Commissioner G. Sachidanandan and former board secretary Rajagopalan Nair. The Minster has forwarded to the Vigilance a complaint submitted by the ‘aravana’ contractor.
