One killed in road accident on national highway

KANCHEEPURAM: One person was killed and a few cars were damaged in a road accident involving a motorcycle and goods carrier on Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway on Wednesday.

According to police, the accident took place around 11-45 a.m. when the motorcycle on which Chandrasekar (45) of Kancheepuram was travelling as pillion rider was hit by the goods carrier from behind near Senthamangalam on the NH in Sunguvar Chatram police station limit.

While Santhoshkumar (19) of Senthamangalam, who drove the motorcycle, was thrown off the vehicle, Chandrasekar along with the two-wheeler was dragged for a few meters, sparking a fire, which engulfed the goods carrier, the motorcycle and Chandrasekar. Seven cars in the goods carrier, which was proceeding to Chennai from Mumbai, were damaged in the incident. Santhoshkumar was injured, police said.
