BOLD APPROACH: From Nritarutya’s new production. BANGALORE: With its bold approach and unique dance vocabulary that extends to contemporary themes, Nritarutya, the modern dance company, is set to return to stage with its new production, Prayog 3, at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall on Friday. Nritarutya is a confluence of art forms and artistes, creating a new movement that remains essentially Indian. Prayog 3 will feature 15 dancers, three choreographers, three installation artistes and some impressive props. The 50-minute production consists of three compositions (Dwandwa, Chittara and Mars) by the three main choreographers. Mayuri Upadhya, artistic director, is trained in Bharatanatyam and martial arts, including Kalaripayattu and Taek-won-do. Her piece Dwandwa has two stories running parallel — about the human world and the animal kingdom. Music for her piece will be composed by Raghu Dixit. The item will also feature a 30-foot dragon. Madhuri Upadhya’s piece, Chittara, is the story of an artist doodling on a canvas. It depicts creation and destruction. She has her classical dance background in Kathak and Bharatanatyam, but her fine arts background has an influence on her dance work. The music for her piece is by Rzhude David of Thermal and a Quarter. Sathya B.G., who has choreographed the third piece, is trained in modern dance techniques and in Kalaripayattu and Yogasana. “Men are from Mars and women are from Venus,” believes Sathya, hence the name Mars. Shiva, of Yodhaka, has composed the music for this one.
