Chandra Shekhar’s son Neeraj Shekhar wins Ballia Lok Sabha constituency by huge margin

LUCKNOW: The former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar’s son and Samajwadi Party candidate, Neeraj Shekhar, maintained his family’s hold on the Ballia Lok Sabha seat in eastern Uttar Pradesh by winning the by-election by a huge margin. A first timer in electoral politics, Mr. Shekhar trounced his nearest Bahujan Samaj Party rival Vinay Shankar Tewari by a margin of over 1.31 lakh votes. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Virendra Singh and Rajiv Upadhaya of the Indian National Congress lost their deposits.
Balagarh for CPI(M)

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday won the Balagarh Assembly by-election in West Bengal. Party candidate Bhuban Pramanik got 60,101 votes against 51,691 polled by Trinamool Congress candidate Asim Majhi.
JD(U) retains LS seat

The Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday retained the Bikramganj Lok Sabha seat defeating the Rashtriya Janata Dal in a by-election by a margin of about 31,258 votes. Meena Singh (JD-U) polled 1,65,664 while her nearest rival Ashok Kumar Kushwaha (RJD) received 1,34,406 votes.
