Was arms depot looted, asks BJP

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday asked whether terrorists who attacked the Central Reserve Police Force camp in Rampur looted an arms and ammunition depot there.

The people had a right to know about this, party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who accompanied BJP president Rajnath Singh to Rampur soon after Tuesday’s strike, told journalists here.

He said it was not a suicide bomber attack. He criticised the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government for failing to take seriously intelligence reports that Rampur would be attacked.

Mr. Naqvi demanded a “White Paper” on the spread of the terror network in the State.

Mr. Naqvi said terrorists posed a challenge not only to the Indian state but also to Indian Muslims whose patriotism was called into question as a result of their (terrorists’) criminal actions. “They pose a challenge to the minorities.”

The BJP unit in Uttar Pradesh would start a campaign against terrorism. This would later become an all-India campaign. A party rally was also being planned, possibly in Rampur.
