CPI(M) worker shot dead
Staff Reporter
Kolkata: A Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker was shot dead by a group of suspected Maoists on Tuesday night at the Balarampur area in West Bengal’s Purulia district.
A group of 10 to 12 Maoists crossed over into Jharkhand and shot dead 42-year-old Palhan Majhi, said Raj Kanojia, Inspector-General (Law and Order). Maoist posters were found at the site of the attack.
The Maoists had sneaked in despite recent exercises by the police to discourage their movement in the three districts of Purulia, Bankura and Paschim Medinipur that are believed to be the Maoist strongholds, he added.
In another incident, a decapitated body of a man, identified as Sisir Chattopadhyay, was found in Khirgram, Burdwan, on Wednesday.

PTI reports from Rourkela:
Armed Maoists on Wednesday attacked a police outpost and a bus in Jharkhand killing one policeman. Seven policemen were also injured, two of them critically, in the early morning raid on the outpost at Bansjor in Simdega district on the Orissa-Jharkhand border.
