Mumbai: Left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the rest of the Australia tour because of a heel injury. He will be replaced by Punjab’s Vikram Raj Vir Singh. “Zaheer will return home soon. The selectors consulted the team management and decided to pick V.R.V. Singh,” said Niranjan Shah, Secretary, BCCI.

He also said that Munaf Patel and S. Sreesanth have to prove their fitness in the BCCI’s domestic competitions before they are considered for selection.

The Duleep Trophy is scheduled to start after the Ranji Trophy final (Jan. 16-20) and Munaf Patel and Sreesanth — in the event of being fit — are expected to figure in the tournament for West and South zones.

Both have been advised to report to Dav Whatmore, Consultant, National Cricket Academy (NCA), at Bangalore on Thursday. Munaf is undergoing treatment and rehabilitation for a lower back strain and Sreesanth for a shoulder injury of the bowling hand.

Though Sreesanth has been advised surgery by all the doctors the BCCI has consulted, including its medical advisor Dr. Anant Joshi, the Kerala seamer has opted for ayurvedic therapy. — Special Correspondent
