The percentage-wise break-up of the type of commercial vehicles involved in the fatal accidents shows that trucks accounted for 21 per cent of the accidents, cars/auto-rickshaws 14 per cent, two-wheelers 10 per cent and Blueline buses only 6 per cent. The Delhi Transport Corporation buses were responsible for only 2 per cent of the total fatal accidents. Killer BluelinesOf a total of 376 accidents involving Blueline buses, 118 proved fatal. Interestingly, the number of fatal accidents involving Blueline buses remained the same for 2006 and 2007. However, 88,678 Blueline buses were prosecuted for traffic violations and 2,170 drivers were arrested in 2007. In a bid to enforce traffic laws and bring about discipline on roads, a total of 3,984,586 challans were issued in 2007 and a total compounding amount of Rs.98 crore was realised.
