Suspended cop surfaces

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Balbir Singh, a suspended Delhi Police inspector who went missing about a year ago, surfaced mysteriously in neighbouring Ghaziabad on Tuesday. He alleged that he had been kept in confinement by some unidentified persons.

A shabbily-clad Balbir went to the Tulsi Niketan police post in Ghaziabad on Tuesday night and alleged that he was dropped nearby by three men who had kept him confined to a room somewhere outside Delhi.

He claimed that about a year ago he had gone to a dispensary when three men overpowered him, forced him inside a car and drove for about six hours after which they bundled him into a room. They kept changing the hideout to evade detection, he alleged. The Uttar Pradesh police informed their Delhi counterparts and the inspector’s relatives on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, Balbir went to the Crime Branch office and told senior officers that he would soon submit a written statement about the incident.
