Mega-city dreams

The real estate boom in Kochi has brought new issues to the forefront. The so called land mafia is thriving and acquisition of land for public utilities is in trouble.

There seems to be no easy escape route. But former GCDA chairman Antony Isaac has a solution: extend the boundaries. Once the city widens, the availability of land will increase and the supply-demand ratio will be more comfortable.

The mega-city can extend up to the borders of Thrissur in the north and Cherthala in the south.

The suggestion came at a seminar on Kochi’s development scenario, organised in the city a few days ago.
