PUDUCHERRY: The setting in a garden on a dark evening seemed very apt for the Vasantha Rasa Lila of Krishna and His Gopikas. Spraying colours and showering flowers on each other, the Manipuri dancers brought out the sublimity of yearning of the Gopis to be one with Lord Krishna.

The mellifluous notes of a flute and a very slender voice almost gave a magical feel to the performance by the dancers of Ranganiketan from Manipur.

The Gopikas, led by Radha, searched for their Lord and called out to Him to dance with them.

The group was in Puducherry after performing at the third All-India Science and Spiritual Quest Conference that was held in Tirupati.

The programme was organised by the Aurodhan Art Gallery in Kuruchikuppam. After the dance, the members also performed a Pung Cholam, an acrobatic and energetic drum dance, which is traditionally performed as an invocation before the Rasa Lila dance.

Ranganiketan was started in 1989 in the ‘City of Jewels’ (Manipur).
