Slice of life on campus Film Review

Happy Days

Directed by Sekhar S. Kammula, Happy Days brings to the fore the vivacity of campus life.

Set in the environs of an engineering college, the film is an interesting narrative of the experiences of four teenage boys and a couple of girls, in their first year at college.

Days are happy, carefree but there are times when Chandu, Tyson, Rajesh, Sankar, Maathu and Aparna face problems.

They soon learn to cope with them.

In the first year, they get ragged by seniors. At first they are frightened but later they muster courage to confront their tormentors.

The characters are well-conceived. Chandu is in love with classmate Maathu, and the two go through their share of separation and reconciliation.

Tyson keeps pursuing Sravanti, a senior student, though she is indifferent towards him.

Rajesh loves to flirt, even trying to propose to a beautiful woman teacher. Aparna, a tomboy and a classmate is attracted towards Rajesh, but the feeling is not reciprocated. Sankar is eventually ditched by the girl he loves.

When their college days end, they are sad to part, but hopeful of a good future. The memories remain the happiest, given the doses of little joys, petty quarrels, disappointments, humour and envy.

The film, originally in Telugu, a huge hit of the year, has been dubbed in Malayalam.

Tamanna, Nikhil, Rahul, Sandesh, Kamlina, Vamsi Krishna, Gayatri and Sonia are in the cast.

Music is scored by Mickey J. Mayor.

Vijay C.Kumar wields the camera.

Happy Days is presented by Khaddar Hassan for Redakh Arts.
