Mystery shrouds college student’s death

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: A first year Pre-University Course student of a private college was found dead under suspicious circumstances next to the railway track in Malleswaram on Wednesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Railways) Krishnappa said Dhanashekar (21) had suffered a head injury apparently after he was hit by the footboard of a moving train. One of his slippers had come under the wheels of the train. The circumstantial evidence indicated that it was an accidental death.

However, the police would investigate whether Dhanashekar was murdered over a love affair as was being rumoured. “We will question Dhanashekar’s friends with whom he was last seen,” Mr. Krishnappa told The Hindu. The City Railway Police have registered a case of unnatural death. Dhanashekar, a resident of Mariyappanapalaya in Rajajinagar, left his house around 10 p.m. with a few friends to celebrate the new year. On Wednesday morning, passers-by found his body next to the tracks near Mohammedan Block and informed the police. Besides studying for his PU course, Dhanashekar was working in a private institution, the police said.
