‘Chulah’ turns fatal

VIZIANAGARAM: A lighted portable furnace (chulah) kept underneath a cot turned fatal for an old man at Vennupadu village in Jami mandal on Thursday.

Chanumuri Demudu, 75, in an attempt to protect from chilly weather on Wednesday night put the ‘chula’ under his cot for warmth. Somehow flames caught him unawares in the wee hours. He was rushed to district headquarters hospital where died while undergoing treatment on Thursday, according to Narayana Rao, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Jami.
