Rs. 1,000 cr. for road projects

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Government decided to take up major road projects which envisaged investment of over Rs. 1000 crore during next 12 months, State Works Minister A. U Singhdeo here on Thursday.

“We will be finalising tenders within a month for three road patches with a total length of 204 km. The state government will spend Rs 350 crore on the project in the first phase,” Mr. Singhdeo said.

The roads which had been finalised in the phase included Berhampur-Taptapani (41 km), Bhawanipatna-Khariar (68 km) and Chandbali-Bhadrak (95 km). “The road works are expected to start from the month February or March,” he said.

In the second phase, the State Government proposed to spend Rs 800 crores to develop 257-kilometre road stretch.

The roads included Taptapani-Raipanka (68 km), Raipanka-JK Road (83 km) and Jagatpur-Chandbali (106 km). These works could see the light in the month of October.

“We have sough loan from World Bank to complete the project. We are hopeful that the state government will be able to secure the loan,” works minister said.

Besides, the state government decided to take up four road patches for development under public-private-partnership mode.

The roads which were identified included Sambalpur-Rourkela (165 km), Joda-Bamberi (18 km), Koira-Tensa (46 km0 and Dhamra Port-Diachia (39 km).

Traffic survey and soil investigation for the road projects had already been completed.

On the later stage, the state government plans to take up 500 km of highly trafficable roads under PPP mode.
