PUDUCHERRY: The Director of National Institute of technology, Tiruchi, M. Chidambaram, on Thursday stressed the need for starting nano-tech fabrications laboratories at the regional level. Delivering the inaugural address at an international conference on nano and microelectronics (ICONAME 2008) at the Pondicherry Engineering College, Professor Chidambaram said that this was needed as such labs are quite expensive. According to a press release here, he also called for colleges to offer courses on nano electronics at UG and PG level. For this, he said teaching staff should also be trained well. Werner Weppner of the Christian Albrechts - University (CAU Kiel, Germany), in his keynote address, stressed the need for international collaboration on research on nano technology. “Such collaboration will help us to come up with solutions to problems such as energy and environment,” he said. Pondicherry Engineering College Principal T.G. Palanivelu and Head of the Department of EIE of the college R. Ananda Natarajan also spoke, the release added.
