Kozhikode
Kozhikode: U.C. Raman, MLA, expressed surprise over reports which said the Vigilance Department of the police has found him guilty of possessing wealth beyond his known sources of income. Mr. Raman, who got elected from Kunnamangalam as an Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) candidate, said “the reports are politically motivated. I have not been contacted by any official in connection with the reported Vigilance probe. I am not aware of any vigilance inquiry being conducted against me.” He said a vilification campaign had been unleashed against him ever since he defeated the LDF candidate in Kunnamangalam in the 2006 Assembly polls. This was because his win was against the general trend in election results, he said. “The well on my residential compound was contaminated using black oil,” Mr. Raman said. Mr. Raman plans to take up the matter with the Speaker of the Assembly as a case of breach of privilege.
