Phagwara: Sub-zero temperature prevailing in several parts of Punjab’s Doaba region coupled with ground frost has affected potato and pea crops. The Doaba region is known for its potatoes but farmers here are nervous as over 20 per cent of their crop has been adversely affected by frost and freezing temperatures. Some farmers have pegged the damage at 30-35 per cent. The frost withers the foliage of potato crop, leading to low yield and under-sized potatoes that have no takers.
