SBI branch at Thammampatti sought

Staff Reporter

ATTUR: The Thammampatti Town Consumer Awareness, Human Rights and Environment Protection Council and Lions Club of Thammampatti have appealed to the State Bank of India to open a branch with ATM facility at Thammampatti.

In a memorandum to the SBI head office and Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, the associations claimed that the selection grade town panchayat and its suburbs have a population of more than 1.50 lakh.

Banking services

A large number of students, government officials and traders in the area were dependent on the banking services from SBI.

At present, they are travelling to Attur to avail the services of SBI, the memorandum said.

Though a branch of a nationalised bank is functioning at Thammampatti, it is overburdened due to increase in the day-to-day transactions.

Residents of about 25 surrounding villages, including Sendarapatti, Ulipuram, Nagiampatty, Valakkombai, Kondaiyampalli, Koneripatti, Thagarapudur, Manmalai, Palakadu, Moolapudur and Pananthoppu depend on the branch for banking services. Opening of a new SBI branch with ATM facility would benefit a large number of people in the town.
