CHANDIGARH: Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai on Thursday administered the oath of office to five Information Commissioners at a simple ceremony in Raj Bhavan here. They are former IAS officer Asha Sharma, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) J.B.S. Yadav, Ashok Mehta, M.R. Ranga and Premvir Singh. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Finance Minister Birender Singh, Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha, Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta, Parliamentary Secretaries Krishna Pandit and Sharda Rathore and State Chief Secretary Promilla Issar were among those present. Later, talking to media persons, Chief Information Commissioner G. Madhavan said as many as 1,500 cases had been received by the Commission so far and penalty in 16 had been imposed varying from Rs.1,000 to 6,000. He said people were coming forward to seek information under the Right to Information Act. Transparency was being maintained and the cases were being disposed of on priority.
