No dissidence in party, asserts Himachal BJP chief

Staff Correspondent

SHIMLA: The president of Himachal Pradesh unit of BJP Jairam Thakur has denied any bickering or factionalism among the newly-elected legislators of the party and said the new Cabinet will be formed amicably and with a just representation. Mr. Thakur, a third time consecutive winner himself, also hinted at remaining in the party organisation instead of staking his claim for a ministership.

“There is no dissidence in the party, which has achieved a milestone by coming to power on its own in the State for the first time,” he said at his first press conference after the party secured an absolute majority in the recent Himachal Assembly elections.

Replying to a question that a few Shanta Kumar supporters and dissident leaders were meeting in New Delhi, he said no such activity was taking place and a few leaders getting together somewhere could not be termed as dissidence.

The BJP leader said a large number of women and young voters had voted against the previous Congress Government which had failed to check prices of essential commodities and providing employment to the youth.

The BJP’s vote share in these elections had jumped by over eight per cent to 43.73 per cent from 35.38 per cent recorded last time, he added.

Lamenting former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s statement calling him an inexperienced party president, he said the same inexperienced State party leader has routed a very seasoned and an experienced Congress leader in the elections.

Mr. Thakur lauded the new Government for increasing the wages of daily workers to Rs.100 and pension for the elderly, women and the handicapped to Rs.300 from the existing Rs.75 and Rs.200 respectively.
