Sikri and Justice Rekha Sharma of the Delhi High Court on Thursday visited the Commonwealth Games Village site on the Yamuna riverbed near the Akshardham temple in East Delhi for an on-the-spot feel of the layout. Officials of the Delhi Development Authority, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, their counsel and social activist Vinod Jail accompanied the Judges to the site. The Judges had on Wednesday expressed their desire to visit the site while hearing a public interest litigation by Mr. Jain seeking a direction to the Centre not to allow development of such projects on the riverbed and floodplain of the Yamuna that hinder groundwater recharge and environment regeneration. They had said they wanted to see for themselves how much of the riverbed and floodplain had been acquired to build the Games Village. Opinion on Jan. 8The Judges will express their opinion on the construction site on January 8, the next date of hearing.
