BANGALORE: The VIII Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday directed the High Grounds police to register a case against the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and investigate whether he had hurt the religious sentiments of the Veerashaiva community. The Magistrate, K. Palakshappa, passed the orders after taking note of a private complaint filed in the court on December 12 by a city-based advocate N.P. Amruthesh. In his petition, Mr. Amruthesh had sought action against Mr. Kumaraswamy for allegedly making malicious remarks against the seers of the Veerashaiva community, particularly Sri Shivakumara Swami of Tumkur’s Siddaganga Math, at a Janata Dal (Secular) rally held at Palace Grounds in November last. The magistrate ordered the police to register a case against Mr. Kumaraswamy under the Indian Penal Code, Sections 298 and 504. The police have been directed to file the investigation report in the court before February 16. In his complaint, filed under the Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, Mr. Amruthesh had prayed the court to direct the police to register a case against Mr. Kumaraswamy under the IPC Section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of citizens).
