TN bus burning case: 4 more move court for bail

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday adjourned petitions for bail by four accused in the Tamil Nadu State Transport bus burning case which took place in Bangalore in September 2007, in which two passengers were charred to death.

The petitioners, including the third accused in the incident, said they were not involved in the incident and that they had been framed by the police. They also contested the charge sheet filed against them and several others by the Madivala police.

According to the charge sheet, the mob had first attacked the residence of Ms. Selvi, daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, in J.P. Nagar, Bangalore. It had later set fire to a Tamil Nadu bound bus at Bommanahalli.

The Madivala police had registered a case on September 21 and named 12 persons of a mob which had set fire to the bus. The mob was reportedly enraged by the comments made on Lord Rama by Mr. Karunanidhi. The petitioners said several people accused in the incident had already been granted bail by the High Court and sought for the same relief. Justice N. Ananda adjourned further hearing on the case.
