BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Jawaharlal Bal Bhavan Workers’ Union condemned the move to privatise Bal Bhavan and has urged the Government to cancel the lease agreement entered between Bal Bhavan and Fun Style Amusements. Union president G.R. Shivashankar told presspersons here on Wednesday that although Bal Bhavan had not been facing any financial crisis, the privatisation move had been made on the pretext of upgrading it. Alleging the hand of a vested interest in handing over the maintenance of toy train, boating, theatre, and birthday party hall to private parties, he demanded an investigation either by the Corps of Detective (CoD) or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Profit-orientedExpressing his apprehension over the motive of the private party, he said: “The intention is to make profits and not to provide service.” Mr. Shivashankar said that privatising Bal Bhavan was against the interest of workers and poor children. “The union would intensify its protest from January 16 if the agreement was not cancelled,” he added.
