Eco-Friendly year for Haryana
Special Correspondent
CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government will observe 2008 as Eco-Friendly Year, according to Minister of State for Environment and Forests Kiran Choudhry.
She told media persons here on Thursday that the State Government’s decision to ban the use of plastic as carry bags with thickness less than 30 microns was a step towards saving the earth from hazardous effluents.
She said the Government would give a month’s time to plastic carry bag manufacturers to start manufacturing plastic carry bags of 30 microns thickness instead of 20 microns from the date of issue of notification. Directions would be sent out to malls, shops etc. which were using the plastic carry bags and action would be taken against those violating the ban.
