3 Indian students die in Melbourne fire

Melbourne: Three Indian students were charred to death when a huge fire engulfed a house in the western district of this city early on Thursday, police said.

The three men aged 30, 24 and 22 years were unable to escape from the front bedroom as the blaze spread quickly. There was little the fire-fighters could do to save them, Fire Brigade authorities said here.

Three escape

The bodies of two of the men were found at the back of the house. The third victim’s body was found later in the hall. However, a man, a woman and their daughter managed to escape the fire unharmed.

A detective from the Victorian Police arson squad said the dead men were Indian students studying in Australia for about two years.

Police were contacting the victims’ families in India, he added. The cause of the fire was still being investigated.

The three people who escaped the blaze are in shock and staying with friends.
