Protests against uranium mining
Shillong: The Union Environment and Forest Ministry’s clearance for the Uranium Corporation of India Limited’s mining project in Meghalaya has led to protests by some organisations in the State.
Chief Minister D. D. Lapang has sought the opinion of all political parties to help the State government take a decision.
They said the party wanted to wash its hands off the matter, ahead of the Assembly elections this year.
Organisations such as the Khasi Students Union had urged the State government to stop the Corporation from going ahead with the project. — PTI
