Railways ‘A’ races ahead

Bharuch: After scoring a modest 76 VPs in the first four rounds, the holder of the Ashok Ruia Trophy — Indian Railways ‘A’ (Manas Mukherjee, Rana Roy, Amar Nath Banerjee, Sumit Mukherjee, Debabrata Majumder and Subir Majumdar) — was on a roll in the next six rounds, collecting 128 VPs out of a possible 150 in the National bridge championship being played here.

With three rounds to go to decide the 12 qualifiers from the group, the defending champion is now on top of Group ‘A’ with 204 VPs. In the second position is Formidables (Kiran Nadar, Subhash Gupta, Rajesh Dalal, K.R. Venkataraman, Sunit Choksi and B. Satyanarayana) with 188.

Dhampur Sugar Mills (Ashok Goel, Kamal Mukherjee, Pritish Kushari, Kamal Roy, Aloke Sadhu and S.C. Dutt), with a tally of 196 VPs, continued to top Group ‘B’. India Blues (Ashok Ruia, J.M. Shah. S.K. Iyengar, Sandeep Karmarkar, N.R. Kirubakara Moorthy and K. Krishna Kumar) is in the second spot.

The top 12 (both groups): Group ‘A’: Indian Railways ‘A’ (204), Formidables (188), Tolani Shipping (184), Kabra (175), Faria (168), Jeroo Mango (168), Mohota (167), NALCO (166), Manyavar (165),Smoak (164), MMRC (163), Bimal Sicka and Carotino Oil (161 each).

Group ‘B’: Dhampur Sugar Mills (196), India Blues (182), Rajeev Khandelwal (176), Indian Railways ‘B’ (175), FMC (174), Soumitra (173), Malani (170), Kaushik (167) Trambak Rubber (166), Maya Mira Sneha and J.P. Goenka (164 each), Bridge Harmony and Tarakunde (161 each).
