BERHAMPUR: Six students of Shaolin style of Kung fu were awarded black belts at the all India black belt competition of the Indian Fight School held in the city on Thursday.

The competition was organised at the ‘Shaolin Vedic School’ campus in the city. Forty selected Kung fu students from different states of the country had gathered up to show up their learning of this martial art to get graded by the masters judging them.

As per their performances these budding martial art students were awarded different belts.

The technical director of All India grandmasters’ association, Manoranjan Mohapatra, informed that only six out of the 40 participants were found to be adept enough in the skills of Kung fu to be awarded first degree dan black belt.

“It is not the end of training for these students as the are still far away from the tenth degree dan black belt, which is the dream of every Kung fu student”, he said.

All participants had participated in this competition with an aim to acquire a black belt. But most of them had to be satisfied with belts of lower degree.

Eight students were awarded brown belts while five received the purple belt. According to Mr. Mohapatra, their association was too strict in awarding black belts as all round development of body, mind and intellect was a major criteria along with the learning of Kung fu skills for any martial art learner.
