MANGALORE: The Jet Airways introduced a late evening daily service from here to Bangalore on Thursday.

With this, the number of daily flights between the two cities has gone up to five. The number of movements of domestic flights at Bajpe Airport of the Airports Authority of India has risen to 200 a week.

M.R. Vasudeva, director of the airport, received the inaugural flight of Jet Airways when it landed at 6.30 p.m. It had departed from Bangalore at 5.45 p.m.

The flight took off from here at 7.05 p.m. to reach Bangalore at 7.50 p.m. These flight timings will henceforth be maintained, except on Sundays.

On Sunday, the aircraft will leave Bangalore at 6.05 p.m. and arrive here at 6.45 p.m. It will leave Bajpe Airport at 7.20 p.m. and reach Bangalore at 8.05 p.m.

There were no late evening flight services between the Mangalore and Bangalore till Wednesday.

The last flight to Mangalore from Bangalore was at 4.15 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. in the reverse direction.

Mr. Vasudeva told The Hindu that with the introduction of new domestic daily flight service, the movements of domestic flights at the airport had risen to 28 a day, except on Tuesdays and Saturdays. On these two days, the movements would be 30, he said.

Jet Airways flight on Thursday evening carried 92 passengers to Bangalore and 44 passengers arrived here on the return trip.

Pramod Nair, station manager, Jet Airways, said that fares charged by them varied from a minimum of Rs. 2,900 to a maximum of Rs. 5,875 a passenger in the economy class for the Bangalore-Mangalore flights. In the business class, the fare was Rs. 7,025 a passenger.

The Boeing 737/700 aircraft, introduced from Thursday, has 96 economy class and 16 business class seats.

He said that this flight provided connectivity to Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and other major cities through Jet Airways flights in Bangalore.

Passengers travelling to those major cities by Jet Airways would be given boarding cards at Bajpe Airport, he added.

Sources at the airport said that another private operator was planning to introduce a late evening service between Mangalore and Bangalore from next week. As per the tentative schedule, the proposed flight would be scheduled to leave Bangalore at 7 p.m., arrive in Mangalore at 8 p.m., depart from here at 8.30 p.m. and reach Bangalore at 9.30 p.m.
