BANGALORE: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists barged into the railway grounds at Yeshwanthpur on Thursday and disrupted officials from conducting physical efficiency test for candidates who have applied for Group D posts in the Railways. The vedike activists were protesting against the Ministry of Railways alleging that it had not issued advertisements in Kannada newspapers about the recruitment of staff for 4,700 Group D posts. According to the police, around 1,500 candidates from all over the country, mainly Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Gujarat, had come to attend the physical efficiency test here. As the vedike activists, who outnumbered the police, barged into the railway grounds, the candidates ran helter-skelter, abandoning their bags and baggage. The Railway authorities were forced to suspend the test till normality was restored. The test will go on for two more days. After the police restrained the activists, the Railway officials tried to convince them that posts cannot be reserved for Kannadigas as it was an all-India recruitment drive and that they had issued advertisements even in a few Kannada dailies.
