KOCHI: Unauthorised display of hoardings and laying of cables and poles in the city will attract action, warn civic administrators. The town planning standing committee of the city Corporation has decided to crackdown on hoardings erected in violation of the guidelines regarding their size. Normally, the maximum size of hoardings permitted in the city is 50ft by 20ft. The committee had earlier issued a warning to advertisers to remove unauthorised hoardings before December 31. However, several hoardings bigger in size have been erected. All such cases will be dealt with sternly, said E.M. Sunilkumar, Chairman of the standing committee. The committee has also decided to take action against hoardings and display boards posing safety risks and obstructing vehicular traffic. Unauthorised laying of cables will be curbed. Permissions have been issued only to Reliance and VSNL to lay cables. However, it has come to notice that several private firms and cable TV companies have laid cables and erected poles in the city.
