This follows a notice from the KSPCB BANGALORE: Following a notice from Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) about a foul odour emanating from its incinerator, Biocon has put in place an alternative solution to remedy the problem, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, CEO of Biocon India Group, told The Hindu. “The KSPCB had asked us to look into our incinerator which used to generate a bad smell. We have put forward an alternative solution that both our company and the KSPCB are happy about,” Ms. Shaw said. The notice from KSPCB came after instructions from Governor Rameshwar Thakur’s office and also after the Bangalore Urban Zilla Panchayat passed a resolution on November 15 asking authorities concerned to stop supply of power to Biocon as the company units have allegedly been causing water and air pollution. KSPCB Chairman H.C. Sharatchandra said that the company had been asked to shut down its incinerator as the burning waste was malodorous. “They have proposed an alternative solution. The waste is being transported to another facility a few kilometres away. We have approved that on an experimental basis and will review it after 15 days,” he said.
