Sub-Inspector assaulted in Kadapa

Attacked by the enraged kin of a 55-year-old man, who allegedly died in police custody
KADAPA: Tension prevailed in the town here after the Chennur police station Sub-Inspector G. Sivanna was attacked by the enraged relatives of Abdul Nabi, a 55-year-old man, who allegedly died in police custody.
Chennur police arrested Abdul Nabi on Thursday evening on charges of organising matka and lodged him in the lock-up. Police personnel allegedly beat up the accused resulting in his death.
As news of Nabi’s death spread, a large number of his relatives stormed the police station and showered blows on the Sub-Inspector and staff.
Incidentally, Sivanna took charge at Chennur, 15 km from Kadapa, a few days ago following the retirement of the previous Sub-Inspector.
Forces rushed
Kadapa DSP D. Narasimha Reddy, Kadapa West Circle Inspector U. Suryanarayana and additional forces rushed to Chennur police station on learning about the attack on the SI. Amidst high tension, the DSP initiated discussions with the enraged relatives in a bid to pacify them.
