HYDERABAD: Government employees, teachers and workers serving in Hyderabad and its neighbourhood staged lunch-hour demonstrations at their offices in the twin cities on Thursday, demanding a 10 per cent HRA hike.
The demand has been made in line with the recent Central declaration upgrading Hyderabad into A1 class city. The government staff are already getting HRA at 20 per cent of their basic pay.
At the Secretariat, employees came out of various blocks wearing black badges and staged the demonstration, shouting slogans.
A leader of the coordination committee formed with representatives from various employees’ organisations said they would conduct a rally in the Secretariat on January 9 followed by a dharna at Indira Park on January 23. If the government did not respond by then, they would go ahead with the indefinite strike as planned from midnight of January 26 in tune with the strike-notice already served on the government.
