Indian team to review security in Afghanistan

Anita Joshua

NEW DELHI: In the wake of the suicide attack on a convoy of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Afghanistan on Thursday, India has decided to immediately send a team to review security arrangements and identify additional measures to protect Indians involved in the reconstruction of the war-ravaged country. An External Affairs Ministry statement here said the attack was against India’s aid and humanitarian programme but the Government would continue to work for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the country and the well-being of the Afghan people. Further, India would work with the Afghanistan Government to beef up security at all project sites and other locations where Indian nationals were working.

The Ministry said two security personnel were killed and some others injured in the attack on the BRO team constructing the Zaranj-Delaram Road. A number of Afghan security personnel had also been killed in the attack.

Regretting the loss of life, it said India’s Ambassador in Kabul was in touch with the Indian personnel and efforts were being made to airlift the injured to a place where they could be provided better medical treatment.
