Madras University regains title

CHENNAI: Madras University regained the all-India inter-university tennis title beating Delhi 3-2 in the final. The tournament was held at the M.P.U. Agricultural University in Udaipur recently.

Madras was regaining the title after a gap of seven years. As the score suggests, it was a close match with Mohammed Fariz winning the crucial fifth match to clinch the title. Vijay Sundar Prashanth, M. Hari Prasasd and Tariq Jacob are the other members of the side.

Madras had beaten DAV Indore 3-0 in the pre-quarterfinals, prevailed over Manipur 3-0 in the quarterfinals and got the better of Bangalore 3-0 in the semifinals.

The team members were felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. S. Ramachandran.

Also present were the Registrar Prof. M. Ranganathan and Dr. V. Mahadevan, Assistant Director of Physical Education, Madras University.

The result:

Final: Madras bt Delhi 3-2 (Vijay Sundar Prasanth bt Krishna Karsolia 6-0, 6-0; Mohammed Fariz lost to Vivek Shekeen 2-6, 3-6; Vijay and Fariz bt Krishna and Vivek 6-4, 6-2; Vijay Sundar lost to Vivek Shokeen 4-6, 4-6; Fariz bt Krishna 7-6, 6-7, 6-2). — Special Correspondent
