Held for stealing cash from ATMs
NEW DELHI: Three young men working with an automated teller machine maintenance firm have been arrested by the police on charges of stealing huge sums of money from the machines. The police claim to have recovered Rs.3.55 lakh of stolen cash from them.
On December 30, a bank lodged a complaint with the Vasant Kunj police station alleging that Rs.1.84 lakh had been stolen from one of its ATM booths. During interrogation, the booth guard disclosed that some employees of an ATM maintenance firm had come to repair the machine that day. From the CCTV camera footage, the guard identified three persons who were later arrested.
The accused, Prashant Sharma, Mohit Malik and Dinesh Kumar, confessed to having committed the theft. They allegedly disclosed that they had stolen Rs.4.5 lakh from the Chandni Chowk ATM booth. A hunt has been launched for their accomplice, Ankush.
