Congress hoping for third win

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal on Thursday wished speedy recovery to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and expressed hope and confidence that she would lead the party with the same vigour and dynamism she had shown earlier.

In a resolution passed at a meeting of senior Congress office-bearers at Rajiv Bhawan here, Mr. Agarwal also expressed optimism that the party would return to power for the third time in Delhi. However, he cautioned the cadres to remain vigilant and prepared for facing any situation or eventuality.

The DPCC president said it was also essential to enrol more members at the block and unit levels to achieve the Congress party’s aim of securing a third win in the Delhi Assembly elections later this year.

Feedback

During the meeting, attended by PCC office bearers, district in-charges, former Mayors of Delhi and the committee formed to see the functioning of the Block Congress Committees, various leaders gave a detailed feedback on the responsibilities they have been entrusted and came out with suggestions for improving the party’s performance. Mr. Agarwal decided that 250 workers from each block would be chosen and 10 of them would be managing the polling booths during elections. “Special attention would be given to areas dominated by Dalits and due importance would be given to Poorvanchalis, minorities and farmers .”
