Engineering employees seek changes in Act
Staff Reporter
‘Increase pension of those covered by EPF’
Hosur: The Dharmapuri District National Engineering Employees Union has appealed to the Central Government to make necessary changes in the Industrial Dispute Act empowering the conciliation officer with powers to reach a settlement in the dispute. A resolution to this effect was passed at the meeting of the union held recently.
In another resolution, the members asked the Government to make necessary amendment in the Payment of Wages Act enabling persons who are defined as workers in section 2 (S) of the Industrial Dispute Act to make any claim for amount, including minimum bonus.
The employers should give skilled training to the trainees and make them permanent along with workers defined in the Industrial Dispute Act. The Central Government should make necessary amendments in the apprentice law for making the above provision in the Apprentice Act, they claimed.
As per the Contract Workers Regulation and Abolition Act, workers other than those in the unorganised sector should be brought under the workers category and provided with all rights under the Act, including bonus.
