They can’t travel by Rajahamsa buses

BIDAR: The North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) has planned to launch one-day bus pass on the Bidar-Aurad route on an experimental basis. Senior officials of the NEKRTC told The Hindu on Friday that the system would be introduced in a fortnight.

Explaining the benefits of the pass, they said, “A passenger who buys the pass can travel between Bidar and Aurad (42 km) at a concession. At present, the fare between the two cities is Rs. 40 for onward and return journey on this route. Besides, the passenger can avail of city bus services free of cost on that particular day. However, pass-holders can’t travel by Rajahamsa buses.” They said the corporation would be launching a campaign to inform the public about the availability of city bus services in Bidar. As part of the campaign, the public would be informed about the Rs. 270 month bus pass system.

Earlier, city buses were operating on limited routes and about a month ago, they were introduced on the following routes: Bidar-Narasimha Zarni, Bidar-Gumpa, Bidar-Kamthana and Bidar-Mailoor. To a question, they said, “It is too early to say whether the city bus service is a success. We are running the buses despite loss, keeping in mind the larger interest of the public.

The response from the public has been satisfactory,” the officials said.
