KOCHI: Tax collection in Ernakulam district has improved substantially ever since the citizens’ charter came into force on December 1 in the Commercial Taxes Department, Mattanchery Deputy Commissioner K.A. Soman has said. Finance Minister Thomas Isaac is scheduled to attend a review meeting of district officials of the department at Ashir Bhavan on Saturday. Mr. Soman said that with the intensified drive of the department, the Mattanchery tax district would be able to achieve the target fixed for tax collection during this financial year. The target set was Rs.485 crore. Of this, Rs.305 crore had already been collected. The balance could be collected within the remaining three months, Mr. Soman said. “Steps have been taken for timely issue of various certificates and other documents from the commercial tax offices. Registration will be granted on the fourth working day from the date of submitting the application complete with all relevant details,” he said. In cases where further inquiry was required, registration would be granted after completing the inquiry in a time bound manner. A help desk had been launched for providing information on tax rates and other procedures. The helpdesk number was 0484-2226011. Complaint boxes had been installed at all offices of the Commercial Taxes Department. Complaints could also be mailed to taxesmattanchery@gmail.com.
