Mini-marathon planned in Karur on Sunday

KARUR: A district-level mini marathon would be organised in Karur on Sunday under four categories.

It would start from Sukkaliyur Round Tana and pass through Sellandipalayam, Thirumanilayur, Sunga Gate, Thanthonrimalai before reaching the Collector’s Office.

The top 10 ranked competitors would be eligible for participation at the State-Level competition to be held later.

For the above-17 men’s category, the run would cover a distance of 10 km while for the same age women category the distance would be eight km. For the under 17 boys the distance would be eight km and for girls in the same age group it would be six km.

The run would be flagged off at 7 a.m. and all arrangements have been made to provide drinking water, health supplement and medical facilities along the route of the marathon.

Arrangements have been made for transporting the participants from the bus stand to the flagging off area and to pick them up from the Collector’s Office where the marathon would end.

The Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited, Kagithapuram, and a host of private organizations are supporting the effort.

While Karur MP K.C. Palanisamy would flag off the run, the Collector T.N. Venkatesh would preside over the prize distribution ceremony.

The Chief Vigilance Officer, TNPL, and Inspector General of Police C. Sylendra Babu and Superintendent of Police K. Shanmugavel have been listed to offer felicitations.
