Trader of silk city donates eyes

Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: Family members of Jammula Shyamsunder (76), a trader of the city, donated his eyes after his death on Friday, as per his wish. It was the first eye donation of the city in 2008 and it was also the 32nd eye donation in the city.

J. Karunakar Rao, son of the deceased, said his father had wished to donate his eyes much before his death and his two sons and two daughters knew about it. On Friday morning he breathed his last in the MKCG Medical College Hospital.

His family members immediately informed the Eye Bank to collect the corneas of Shaymsundar. As the body had been shifted to their residence Dr Ankita Sengar and Dr Sashikala Priyadarsini reached the home of Shyamsunder to collect the corneas after minor operations.
