TDP activists held for Nov. 2006 violence

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: The police on Friday arrested 17 Telugu Desam Party activists and leaders at Tadipatri in connection with the violent incidents on November 16 and 17, 2006 over the removal of encroachments along the main road in the town.

Civic officials stopped

Violence broke out in the town when the municipal officials had tried to demolish a portion of a place of worship that was allegedly constructed on the encroached land.

A particular community was split over the issue as the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party reportedly tried to take advantage of the situation.

The police arrested H. Fayaz Basha and his followers Jilan, Ayub, Gaffar and 13 others and produced them in the Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court at Tadipatri.

Remanded

They were remanded to 14 days judicial custody by the court.
